South African Government Condemns Rape of British Women by an
Alleged Gang of South African Rapists Tshwane - The Ministry of Foreign
Affairs has noted with outrage the reported rape of three British women allegedly
by three South Africans. In this regard, the Department of Foreign Affairs will
liaise with British law enforcement agencies to verify the nationality of the
three suspects. If indeed the three suspects are South African, their hideous
crime will only have helped dent the positive image of our country abroad. Accordingly,
if the suspects have fled to South Africa as reported, our law enforcement agencies
will spare neither strength nor effort in assisting British authorities to bring
them to justice. Coming in the wake of our own national celebrations of
Women's day, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is of the view that violence against
women, both at home and abroad, is deplorable and perpetrators of such dastardly
acts should be brought to face the full might of the law. Equally, the
Ministry of Foreign Affairs, condemns without equivocation the attack of a South
African over the weekend for merely showing support for the national rugby team,
the Springboks. Acts of xenophobia and other intolerances must not be allowed
to take root either at home or on foreign soil. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs
extends its best wishes to Grant Nock and wish him a speedy recovery. The
Ministry of Foreign Affairs expresses its hope that British authorities will thoroughly
investigate the matter and bring the perpetrators to book. Issued by Nomfanelo
