No Confirmation of Nationality of Suspects arrested in Northhampton for Rape

Tshwane- The Department of Foreign Affairs has noted media reports of the arrest of three suspects in Northhampton, Great Britain, alleged to be South African citizens on charges of rape.

At this stage, neither the Department of Foreign Affairs nor the South African Police Services were advised of the arrest of any South African by the British Authorities responsible for the matter.

Accordingly, the Department of Foreign Affairs and the South African Police Services will await official notification by the British authorities on whether there are any South Africans arrested in connection with the matter.

Only after formal notification, can the Department of Foreign Affairs acting in concert with the Department of Home Affairs embark on a process of verification of the nationality and citizenship of the suspects.

Upon verification thereof, the Department of Foreign Affairs, acting through its High Commission in London will then provide consular assistance.
