President Mbeki Extends Condolences to the United States of America Following the Destruction of Hurricane Katrina

Tshwane - President Thabo Mbeki today, Thursday 1 September 2005 expressed South Africa's condolences to President George W. Bush and the United States of America Government, following the destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina.

"On behalf of the Government of the Republic of South Africa we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Government and people of the United States of America following the path of destruction caused by Hurricane Katrina.

"The Government and people of South Africa wish to express their sympathy for the loss of human life during these tragic circumstances. The affected areas and its people remain in the hearts and prayers of the people of South Africa.

"In this regard and on behalf of the Government and the people of South Africa we extend our heartfelt condolences, in particular to the families of those who lost their loved ones", concluded President Mbeki.
