High Commissioner Bavumile Vilakazi's Mortal Remains to Return to South Africa on Wednesday, 27 April 2004

Pretoria - The mortal remains of the late High Commissioner to Uganda, Bavumile Vilakazi will be repatriated to South Africa on Wednesday, 27 April 2005.

A delegation of three family members led by Kingsley Makhubela, former South African High Commissioner to Kenya left South Africa on Sunday, 24 April 2005 for Uganda to finalise arrangements for the repatriation.

In this regard, the South African government extends its gratitude to President Yoweri Museveni, the government and people of Uganda for their generous contribution and support afforded to the delegation and family during this trying moment.

A memorial service has been organised for Friday, 29 April 2005 by the funeral committee led by Ambassador Kingsley Mamabolo in at the Kempton Park Civic Centre, corner Pretoria Street and CR Swart Road, Kempton Park from 14:00-16:00.

Speakers will include the Foreign Ministry, ANC, Cosatu, representatives of NAMPAK, Ekhuruleni Metropolitan and family members and will be directed by Chief of State Protocol Ambassador Billy Modise.

The funeral service is scheduled for Sunday, 1 May 2005.

Minister Dlamini Zuma reiterates the condolences of President Thabo Mbeki, the government and people of South Africa to his wife, children and the entire Vilakazi family during this trying moment.
