Minister Dlamini Zuma to host International Women's Day Seminar
for South African Ambassadors and High Commissioners, 8 - 9 March 2005 Pretoria
- Foreign Minister Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will host a two-day seminar and
workshop from Tuesday-Wednesday 8-9 March 2005 at the Presidential Guesthouse,
Pretoria and the Sandton Convention Centre respectively, in honour of South African
Women Ambassadors and High Commissioners within the context of celebrations of
the International women's Day. Minister Dlamini Zuma returned from New York
on Saturday 6 March, where she led a powerful South African Women's delegation
to the UN Commission on the Status of Women and in which she delivered a South
African report to the Plenary session of the General Assembly and a paper on "the
linkages between implementation of the Beijing Platform of Action and the Outcome
of the 23rd Special Session of the General Assembly". The Seminar will
be officially opened by Deputy Foreign Minister Sue Van der Merwe on Tuesday 8
March at the Presidential Guesthouse with Minister Dlamini Zuma delivering a Keynote
Address on Wednesday 9 March at the Sandton Convention Centre. The Seminar
will be attended by current and former South African Women Ambassadors and High
Commissioner who served during the past ten-years of democracy including senior
women managers at the Department of Foreign Affairs and is aimed at assessing
challenges facing women diplomats as well as the progress thus far made in the
creation of a conducive working environment for women diplomats. The Seminar
will take the form of panel discussions led by senior Ambassadors and High Commissioners.
