Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka to Address YWCA Panel
Discussions on Women and HIV and Aids, Geneva, Switzerland, 28 - 29 October 2005 Geneva
- South African Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka will on Thursday, 27 October
2005, depart South Africa for Geneva, Switzerland to participate in a panel discussion
on Women and HIV and AIDS hosted by the Young Women Christian Association (YWCA). Deputy
President Mlambo-Nqcuka will participate in the Young Women Christian Association
within the context of raising the visibility of the role of women leadership as
well as the importance of developing leadership among women worldwide. South Africa
as part of the African Union has committed itself to ensuring gender parity at
governance, social and economic levels. The panel discussion on Women and
HIV and AIDS is part of a series of events organised to mark the 150th Anniversary
of the Young Women Christian Association. Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka will
participate in the panel in her capacity as the Chairperson of the South African
National Aids Council. In addition, Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka will
deliver a keynote address during the opening session of the YWCA Conference scheduled
for 28 October and expected to draw on international political, civil, business,
women leaders as well as YWCA partners and members. Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka
