Leave for Ambassador M Shaik to Attend Court Proceedings

PUBLISHED IN INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO 34 OF 21 OCTOBER 2005.

Mrs S M Camerer (DA) to ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs:

(1) With reference to her reply to oral Question 6 (written question 696 transferred for oral reply) on the 12 September 2005 and in view of the fact that a certain person (name furnished) took 78 days leave between 12 July 2004 and 12 July 2005, (a) how many days (i) paid and (ii) unpaid leave accrued to the said person in any one calendar year and (b) how much leave was the said person entitled to accumulate during one working year?

(2) What is the policy applicable to officers in her department who are on the said person's level?

REPLY:

(1) (a) The said employee is less than ten years in the service and thus qualified for (i) 22 days vacation (paid) leave and (ii) there is no accrual of unpaid leave in any one calendar year. (b) he was entitled to accumulate 22 days vacation leave in one working year and 36 days sick leave in a three (3) years cycle.

(2) There is no special policy applicable to the people at the said official's level.
