Mr D H M Gibson (DA) to ask the Minister of Foreign Affairs:
What was (a) the total cost to South Africa's participation in the Caribbean Diaspora Conference held in Kingston, Jamaica from 16 to 18 March 2005 and (b) spent in respect of (I) travel, (ii) accommodation, (iii) security and (iv) hospitality?

REPLY:

The total cost of South Africa's participation in the South African, African Union and Caribbean Diaspora Conference thus far has been US$ 220 426.68. It is difficult to give a breakdown of the amounts spent as requested by the Honorable Member, because part of the expenditure was carried by, among others, the Jamaican Government, who were responsible for security. This amount, however, includes an expenditure of US$ 114 539.07 on air tickets and US$ 39 200.94 on accommodation, while US$ 23 845.81 was spent on promotional material distributed during the Conference, as well as US$ 20 000.00 for Events Management.
