Media Advisory on Busa Working Group Meeting and Handing Over of APRM Country Self-Assessment Report

1. President Mbeki to meet Business Unity South Africa (BUSA): Wednesday July 12, 09H00-11H00

President Thabo Mbeki will attend the BUSA Working Group Meeting tomorrow, Wednesday July 12, at 09:00 at the Union Buildings. The President will be accompanied by the Deputy President, Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka as well as several cabinet ministers including the Minister in the Presidency, Dr Essop Pahad and Minister of Trade and Industry, Mr Mandisi Mphahlwa.

The business delegation will be represented by members of BUSA, amongst others, Chairman of BUSA, Mr Bobby Godsell, CEO of CHAMSA, Mr Sipho Mseleku and President of the Black Management Forum, Ms Nolitha Fakude. The CEO of the 2010 World Cup soccer organising committee, Mr Danny Jordaan has also been invited to attend.

This meeting follows an Annual Indaba of the BUSA Working Group held on 06 September 2005. It is expected that this meeting will discuss, inter alia, second economy interventions and the state of preparedness for hosting the 2010 World Cup.

2. President Mbeki to witness the handing over of the African Peer Review Mechanism (APRM) Country

Self-Assessment Report (CSAR): Wednesday July 12, 14H00

President Mbeki will witness the handover of the APRM Country Self-Assessment Report to the APRM Country Review Mission on July 12 2006 at the Presidential Guesthouse at 14:00. The report will be handed over by the Minister for Public Service and Administration, Ms Geraldine Fraser-Moleketi who was chairing the APRM Governing Council.

The Country Review Team, led by Prof Adebayo Adedeji of Nigeria, will consult with parliamentarians, SA government, political parties, business and civil society representatives on the country report prior to its release.

Media are invited to arrive at 13:15 for the ceremony and a media briefing at the end.
