President Thabo Mbeki extends Condolences to Egyptian Government

Pretoria - South African President Thabo Mbeki today Wednesday 23 August 2006 conveyed the heartfelt condolences of the South African government and people to the government and people of Egypt following the train accident on Monday, 21 August 2006, in which many are reported to have been killed and scores others injured.

In a message of support to his counterpart, Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak President Mbeki said, "Please accept the heartfelt condolences of the South African government and people following the train accident on Monday 21 August 2006 that has brought untold suffering to hundreds of people."

"The thoughts and prayers of the South African government and people reach out to those who have lost loved ones and suffered injuries at this time of great tragedy and grief."

"The government and people of South Africa share in your pain and sorrow during this time of bereavement in particular of those who have lost loved ones while wishing those wounded a speedy recovery," concluded President Mbeki.
