Statement on the Suicide Bombing at Kedumim Settlement in the
Occupied West Bank The South African Government condemns the suicide bombing
at Kedumim settlement in the Occupied West Bank, on 30 March 2006, which has killed
at least three Israeli citizens. The South African Government is very concerned
at this latest act of violence and stands firm in its belief that acts of terror
cannot deliver the much cherished peace and security that is sought by Palestinians
and Israelis alike. The South African Government has previously pointed
out the futility of these acts of violence, which inevitably lead to acts of retribution
and retaliation, fuelling the never-ending cycle of violence. Deputy Minister
Pahad stated that "political progress is the most effective tool to marginalize
those opposed to peace. Peace can only be achieved through a negotiated settlement
that provides for a sovereign Palestinian State and guarantees the right of Israel
to live within secure borders". The Deputy Minister called on the
international community to redouble its efforts to ensure that the Oslo Agreements
and the Road Map are implemented without further delay. Issued by Ronnie
