President Thabo Mbeki to Hold Discussion with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi

Rome- South African President Thabo Mbeki who is on a three-day State visit to Italy will on Wednesday 22 March 2006 hold discussions with Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi.

President Mbeki is accompanied on the visit by Mrs Zanele Mbeki and supported by Ministers Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, Mandisi Mphahlwa, Mosibudi Mangena, Director-General Foreign Affairs Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba, Political Advisor Titus Mafolo, Legal Advisor Advocate Mojanku Gumbi and a South African business delegation.

The President's visit to Italy comes within the context of South Africa's priority to strengthen relation with countries of the North with a view to faster and shared economic growth while consolidating the African agenda and the agenda of the South.

President Mbeki is also expected to hold discussions with the leader of the union opposition coalition Mr Romano Prodi. On Tuesday 21 March the President Mbeki held bilateral discussion with his Italian counterpart President Carlo Ciampi before addressing the business forum where a Memorandum of Understanding between Business South Africa and Confindustria was signed.
