Minister Dlamini Zuma concludes Visit to Japan Tokyo -
South African Foreign Minister, Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today, Wednesday 6 December
2006 concluded her official visit to Japan ahead of her visit to Washington where
she will provide political support to President Thabo Mbeki during bilateral discussions
with President George Bush at the Whitehouse on Friday 8 December 2006 Minister
Dlamini Zuma's visit to Japan came within the context of South Africa's commitment
to consolidate and strengthen bilateral political, economic and trade relations
with Japan to support national efforts aimed at a faster and shared economic growth. While
in Japan, Minister Dlamini Zuma held discussions with her counterpart Foreign
Minister Taro Aso and Deputy Vice-Minister for Foreign Policy, Mr Kono. Discussions
focused on bilateral political and trade relations and trilateral co-operation
since Japan will chair the G-8 in 2008. With a view to consolidating bilateral
economic relations between South Africa and Japan, Minister Dlamini Zuma held
discussions with: - Kyosuke Shinozawa the Governor of the Japan Bank
for International Co-operation (JBIC)
- President of the Japan External
Trade Organization (JETRO) Mr Hiroshi Tsukamoto
- Mrs Ogata, President of
the Japan International Co-operation Agency (JICA)
- The Secretary General,
Senator Yano and members of the South Africa Parliamentary Friendship League
- Senators
Araki, Nomura, Shiina and Kawai
- Key captains of industry such as Mr Miyaji,
Member of the IIC and Corporate Advisor to Mitsubishi Company as well as the Vice
Chairperson of Toyota, Honorary Consul, Mr Nakagawa.
Minister Dlamini
Zuma paid a courtesy call at the Japan Football Association, where she met the
Secretary - General of the Japan Football Association with a view to South Africa's
hosting of the 2010 FIFA World Cup and met with Ambassadors and Heads of Mission
of African Missions resident in Japan during which developments in Africa were
