President Mbeki Extends Condolences to Nigeria following a Plane Crash on Sunday, 29 October 2006

Tshwane - President Thabo Mbeki today, Monday, 30 October 2006, extended South Africa's heartfelt sympathies to President Olusegun Obasanjo of Nigeria, after nearly 100 people were killed following a plane crash on Sunday.

'The government and people of South Africa joins the international community in expressing deep shock and sadness at the deaths of nearly 100 people following a plane crash on Sunday.

"During this difficult moment, the thoughts and prayers of the government and people of South Africa reaches out to the government and people of Nigeria and in particular the Muslim community who lost the Sultan of Sokoto, Mohammadu Maccido, their families and loved ones.

"Accordingly the government and people of South Africa extend their heartfelt condolences to the government and the people of Nigeria and in particular members of the bereaved families during this hour of need', concluded President Mbeki"
