Minister Dlamini Zuma to lead South African Delegation to the SADC Council of Ministers Meeting, Gaborone, Botswana, 23 - 24 February 2006

Tshwane - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will lead the South African delegation to the SADC Council of Ministers Meeting in Gaborone, Botswana from Thursday - Friday, 23-24 February 2006.

Minister Dlamini Zuma's participation in the Council of Ministers meeting comes within the context of South Africa's commitment to participate in SADC with a view to successfully finalising its restructuring, and the implementation the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP).

Issues on the agenda of Ministerial discussions are expected to include, among others:

  • A review of the Implementation of Council Decisions;
  • Preparations for the 2006 SADC Consultative Conference;
  • A review of the Operations of the Integrated Committee of Ministers;
  • SADC/European Union Co-operation;
  • Relations with International Co-operating Partners including the SADC-India Forum; and
  • Reports of the:
  • Troika on Politics, Defence and Security Co-operation;
  • Implementation of NEPAD;
  • Design, Financing and Construction of the New Headquarters Office Block; and
  • Finance Committee.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on Friday, 24 February 2006.
