Minister Dlamini Zuma arrives in Botswana ahead of SADC Council of Ministers Meeting

Gaborone - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma landed in Gaborone, Botswane on Wednesday, 22 February 2006 ahead of the scheduled SADC Foreign Ministers Council due on Thursday-Friday, 23-24 February 2006.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is leading a South African government delegation to the meeting within the context of South Africa's commitment to the strengthening and consolidation of SADC institutions and the implementation the Regional Indicative Strategic Development Plan (RISDP).

The 14-member SADC Foreign Ministers Council is expected to deliberate, upon among others:

  • The regional political and economic situation;
  • NEPAD;
  • Finances of the region;
  • SADC-European Union co-operation; and
  • A report of the Organ on Politics, Defence and Security Co-operation.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on Saturday, 25 February 2006.
