Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad to Lead SA Delegation to SADC Meeting
of the Inter-State Politics and Diplomacy Committee Pretoria - South African
Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz Pahad will on Thursday, 15 June 2006 depart for Windhoek,
Namibia where he will lead the South African government delegation to the SADC
Meeting of the Inter-State Politics and Diplomacy Committee (ISPDC) scheduled
for the same day. South Africa alongside Namibia and Lesotho, constitute
the Troika of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security. As such,
Deputy Minister Pahad's participation in this meeting comes within the context
of South Africa's commitment to consolidate the African agenda through South Africa's
participation in SADC institutions. Issues on the agenda of discussions at
the ISPDC meeting will include, among others: - A review of the political
situation in the region;
- Peace and stability in the DRC;
- Consolidation
of democracy in the region; and
- SADC support of peacekeeping and conflict
resolution initiatives.
Deputy Minister Pahad is expected to return
to South Africa on Thursday, 15 June 2006 ahead of the 30th anniversary commemoration
