Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka to Visit Scotland and London

Pretoria - South African Deputy President Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka, supported by Deputy Foreign Minister Sue van der Merwe, will pay a working visit to Scotland and London in the United Kingdom scheduled from Monday - Wednesday, 29-31 May 2006.

Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka's visit to the United Kingdom comes within the context of South Africa's priority to ensure a faster and shared economic growth whilst building partnerships to ensure the success of South Africa's Accelerated and Shared Growth Initiative (AsgiSA) and Joint Initiative for Priority Skills Transfer (JIPSA).

Scotland

On Monday, 29 May 2006 Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka will address the International Press Institute (IPI) World Congress and 55th General Assembly on "The Year We left Behind."

London

On Tuesday, 30 May 2006 Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka will present a keynote address at a Reuters' "Newsmaker" breakfast, hosted by Naill FitzGerald Non-Executive Chairperson of Reuters and member of President Mbeki's International Investment Council.

Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka is expected to focus on prospects for economic growth in South Africa.

Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka is also expected to be a guest of honour at a luncheon for Cape Diamonds plc LSE listing since it was admitted to the London Stock Exchange's Alternative Investment Market (AIM) on 26 May 2006.

Deputy President Mlambo-Ngcuka and Deputy Minister van der Merwe are expected to return to South Africa on Wednesday, 31 May 2006.
