South African Government offers condolences on the death of Chief Negotiator for the Tamil Tigers

Pretoria - The South African Government extends its heartfelt condolences to colleagues, family and friends of Anton Balasingham: politician, strategist and chief negotiator on behalf of the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (Tamil Tigers) and the Government of Sri Lanka.

The South African Government calls on the Tamil and Singalese people to consolidate endeavours to resolve their current political challenges through a negotiated solution.

The greatest tribute that the Tamil or Singalese people can pay to Balasingham is to intensify their efforts to end the current cycle of violence and restart peace negotiations.
