Minister Dlamini Zuma to address London School of Economics and Political Science

London - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, today Tuesday 24 October arrived in London, UK ahead of her address to the London School of Economics and Political Science scheduled for Wednesday 25 October.

Minister Dlamini was in Germany where she led a South African delegation to the 5th Session of the SA-German Binational Commission, co-chaired with her German counterpart Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier.

The address to the London School of Economics comes within the context of the recent unanimous election of South Africa by a vote of 186 out of 192 to serve in the United Nations Security Council.

Accordingly, Minister Dlamini was requested by the London School of Economics as part of a series of lectures to commemorate the 6oth Anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations to the LSE community on address academics, students and members of civil society on the "United Nations in the 21st Century: a perspective from a developing country."

During the visit to London, Minister Dlamini Zuma will also interact with mainly the African Diplomatic Corps based in London High as well as Caribbean Diplomatic corps.

Minister Dlamini Zuma to deliver Inaugural Lecture on Oliver Tambo in Scotland

While in the United Kingdom, Minister Dlamini Zuma will deliver the Oliver Tambo Inaugural Memorial Lecture at the City Chambers, Nelson Mandela Square (formerly George's Square) in Scotland on Thursday 26 October 2006.

Minister Dlamini's Memorial Lecture comes within the context of efforts to strengthen and consolidate relations with the people of Scotland who played a major role in efforts to rid South Africa of the scourge of racism and apartheid.

The Inaugural Oliver Tambo Memorial lecture in Scotland also coincides with the official renaming in South Africa of the Johannesburg International Airport to Oliver Tambo International Airport scheduled for 27 October 2006.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on Saturday 28 October 2006 ahead of the visit of to China where she will provide political support to President Thabo Mbeki during the China-Africa Summit scheduled 3-5 November 2006 in Beijing.
