Southern African Development Community (SADC) Programme for the Post-Election Reconstruction of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC)

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY

FOR ORAL REPLY

QUESTION NO: 175

PUBLISHED IN INTERNAL QUESTION PAPER NO 26 OF 29 AUGUST 2006

MR WJ SEREMANE (DA) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS:

What programme has been put in place by the Southern African Development Community for the post-election reconstruction of the Democratic Republic of the Congo? N1340E

REPLY:

  1. SADC has not yet taken a decision on the post-election reconstruction in the DRC. However, the Troika of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security remains fully engaged on all issues relating to the elections in that country. Any such programme would have to be negotiated with and agreed to by the democratically elected government which is not in place yet.
