Minister Dlamini Zuma to represent President Mbeki at Franco-Africa
Summit Cape Town - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma
will on Tuesday 13 February 2007 depart for Cannes, France where she will represent
President Thabo Mbeki at the Franco-Africa Summit scheduled for Thursday 15 February
2007. Minister Dlamini Zuma will lead the South African delegation to this
Summit within the context of South Africa's priority to promote the developmental
agenda of the South through the consolidation of North-South relations. The
Summit will be held under the banner, "Africa and Global Stability",
and intends to highlight the need to include Africa in global issues as well as
its current dynamism, its successes and its projects for the future. The
overall theme will be divided into three sub-themes, which will be the focus of
discussions in three workshops, namely: - Raw Materials in Africa;
- Africa's
Position and Influence in the World; and
- Africa and the Information Society.
Discussions
are expected to focus on: - How Africa responds to the exploitation of
its raw materials.
- The position of the continent in international organisations;
- The position in South -South Dialogue;
- How does the rest of the
world perceive Africa;
- What image of themselves would Africans like to
project; and
- How can we do away with the most common clichés.
Minister
Dlamini Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on Saturday 17 February 2007. Issued
