Deputy Minister Sue van der Merwe to address UN Day Reception

Deputy Foreign Minister Sue van der Merwe will on Thursday 25 October 2007 host a reception at which she will present an address in commemoration of United Nations Day which is celebrated annually on 24 October 2007.

Deputy Minister van der Merwe will focus on the role of the UN system in assisting African countries in supporting the New Partnership for Africa’s Development (NEPAD) as well as the need to improve delivery to assist Africa to achieve the Millennium Development Goals.

The Resident Co-ordinator of the UN system in South Africa Scholastica Sylvan Kimaryo will also address guests at the event in addition to reading a message from the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon to commemorate UN Day
