EU-Africa Summit in Lisbon on 8 and 9 December 2007

The Second EU-Africa Summit is scheduled to take place in Lisbon on 8 and 9 December 2007, following on from the Summit held in Cairo in 2000 and the political dialogue initiated there.

The Summit will take place at the Lisbon International Exhibition site – Feira Internacional de Lisboa (FIL), located in the Parque das Nações, to the east of Lisbon city centre.

MEDIA ARRANGEMENTS

On arrival at Lisbon Airport, media representatives travelling individually should make their way to the “Welcome Desk” of the Portuguese Presidency of the EU, where they will be given details of transport and other useful information.

Accreditation

Journalists wishing for access to the Press Centre must first obtain accreditation through the Portal of the Portuguese Presidency of the EU (www.eu2007.pt). The holder can then collect the yellow accreditation badge from the Accreditation Centre on presentation of an identity document and press card or letter of assignment from director or editor of the media organisation represented confirming the assignment to cover the Summit.

Accommodation

For logistical reasons the Summit Coordination Unit will make reservations for the press in certain hotels.

The Abreu Travel Agency has placed an accommodation reservation form on the Portuguese Presidency internet portal, together with information on the designated hotels.

Reservations may be made on-line or via the following contacts:

Transport

A coach service will operate between the principal hotels and the press centre. Timetables will be announced.

The Summit organisation will make arrangements for restricted-access parking for the cars of media representatives.

There will be a dedicated area for outside broadcast vehicles. Identification will be required for access to this area, which can be requested by completing the vehicle form.

Press centre

A press centre will operate throughout the Summit on the Lisbon International Exhibition site. A working area will be made available to journalists, with internet connections, PCs, printers, telephones, faxes and photocopiers, and with areas for television and radio broadcasts and press conference rooms which must be booked in advance. A booking system will operate throughout the Summit. Access to the Press Centre is restricted to duly-accredited professional journalists.

Around 1200 work-stations will be available, with internet and telephone connections. They cannot be reserved in advance. PCs, faxes and photocopiers will also be available.

Briefing rooms

Thirty briefing rooms will be available, with capacities for 50, 80 or 100. Larger rooms will have interpreting booths. They may be booked for sessions of no more than two hours, in advance or through the Liaison Officer during the Summit. At the time of reservation the number of places required should be stated, and whether or not the briefing should be announced on the Infotext monitors. Rooms will be offered in the order reservations were made. If live TV broadcasting facilities are required, they should be booked well in advance. The Summit organisation will not be providing flags of any kind for the briefing rooms.

The Final Press Conference of the Summit, to be held by the EU and AU Presidencies, will take place in the Presidency Press Conference Room, with simultaneous interpreting in the four languages of the Summit.

Television Hostbroadcaster Services

Rádio e Televisão de Portugal (RTP) will make its services available in cooperation with Eurovision, in particular through the provision of broadcasting equipment and technical support.

Requests for TV and radio booths, stand-up positions or satellite transmission channels should be addressed to the EBU or to RTP.
