President Mbeki to attend SADC Organ Meeting Pretoria
- South African President Thabo Mbeki, supported by Deputy Foreign Minister Aziz
Pahad, will depart South Africa on Wednesday 28 March 2007 for a two-day SADC
Double Troika and SADC Summit scheduled for Wednesday-Thursday 28-29 March in
Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania. The SADC Troika meeting consists of current, past
and future Chairpersons of SADC namely Lesotho, Zambia and Botswana. Even though
South Africa is not a member of the Troika, the Troika decided to invite President
Mbeki to this week's scheduled meeting. The SADC Summit on the other will bring
together all SADC Heads of State and Government. President Mbeki will attend
the meeting of the SADC Double Troika (ie. Troika of SADC and Troika of the Organ
on Politics, Defence and Security Co-operation) and Summit within the context
of contributing to regional efforts in addressing current politico-economic situation
in the region. In this regard, the meetings will receive and deliberate upon reports
of the Ministerial Double Troika and SADC Ministerial meeting held in Lesotho
on the current regional dynamics. President Mbeki is scheduled to return
