Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad leads SA Delegation to the SADC
Politics and Diplomacy Meeting Dar es Salaam - Foreign Affairs Minister
Aziz Pahad, arrived in Dar es Salaam on Thursday 26 July ahead of the meeting
of SADC's Politics and Diplomacy Committee, scheduled for Friday 27 July 2007
in Tanzania. The Politics and Diplomacy Committee is a sub-committee of the SADC
Organ on Politics, defence and Security. Deputy Minister Pahad, who is leading
a senior South African government officials delegation including Ambassador Jessie
Duarte will participate in the meeting of Politics and Diplomacy within the context
of SA's commitment to consolidating the African agenda through among others the
strengthening of SADC Institutions. In this regard, the Politics and Diplomacy
Committee is expected to discuss among others: - A review of regional
political situation with a focus on Lesotho, DRC and Zimbabwe
- Regional
economic integration process
- Launch of the SADC regional brigade
- Review
of the integrated committee of Ministers.
It is expected that Deputy
Minister Pahad will later in the week be joined in the meeting of the SADC Organ
on Politics, Defence and Security by Minister of Intelligence Ronnie Kasrils and
Deputy Minister of Defence Mluleki George. The Politics and Diplomacy Committee
meeting is convened as part of preparations for the forthcoming SADC Ministerial
and Summit of Heads of State and Government scheduled for 14-17 August in Lusaka,
