Minister Dlamini Zuma to hold discussions with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon in New York

New York - South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will today Tuesday 9 January 2007 hold discussions with the UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-Moon at the UN Headquarters in New York.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is presently visiting New York where she is leading a South African government delegation including Foreign Affairs Director-General Dr Ayanda Ntsaluba, Deputy Director-General George Nene and Ambassador Dumisani Kumalo to the handing over ceremony of the Chairpersonship of the G-77 + China to Pakistan scheduled for Wednesday 10 January.

Following the meeting with the UN Secretary-General, Minister Dlamini Zuma will hold bilateral political discussions with the current President of the UN Security Council, the representative of the Russian Federation. South Africa had earlier in the week, as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council participated in the debate on threats to international peace and security presided over by the Russian Federation.

Earlier in the week, Minister Dlamini Zuma had visited Washington where she held bilateral political discussions with her USA counterpart Secretary of State Dr Condoleeza Rice to discuss upcoming issues in the UN Security Council including the situation in Somalia, the Middle East and Iran.
