 MR GR MORGAN (DA) TO ASK THE MINISTER OF FOREIGN AFFAIRS:  

  • Whether the Government has taken a position on the call by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for an autonomous Tibet; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details;
  • whether the issue of Tibet was raised with the President of the People’s Republic of China, Mr Hu Jintao, during his recent visit to South Africa; if not, why not; if so, what are the relevant details? N398E

REPLY:  

  • The Government of the Republic of South Africa recognizes the Tibet Autonomous Region (TAR) and Tibetan autonomous prefectures and counties in other provinces to be an integral part of the People's Republic of China.
  • No. See in this regard the response to part 1 of this question.
