Minister Dlamini Zuma to sign Agreement on Peaceful Uses of Nuclear Technology with Argentina

Argentina : South African Foreign Minister, Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma is expected to sign an agreement on the peaceful uses of nuclear technology during the SA-Argentina Binational Commission scheduled for Tuesday-Wednesday 2-3 December 2008 in Buenos Aires.

Minister Dlamini Zuma arrived in Argentina on Sunday evening ahead of the scheduled SA-Argentina Binational Commission, which she will co-chair with Argentinean counterpart, Minister of Foreign Affairs, International Trade and Worship, Dr. Jorge Enrique Taiana,  aimed at consolidating bilateral political, economic and trade relations between the two countries

Minister Dlamini Zuma’s delegation includes senior government officials from the Departments of Foreign Affairs, Agriculture, Trade and Industry, Science and Technology, Minerals and Energy and Environment and Tourism.

Later today, Monday 1 December, Minister Dlamini Zuma is also expected  to address the Public Policy Association Conference on the Control of International Arms Transfers. In addition, Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to:

  • interact with Argentines that participated in the May 2008 Seminar on "South Africa/ Argentina and Africa/ South America;
  • meet with Argentine representatives that  attended the preparatory meeting in Brazil for the Diaspora Summit
  • as well as interacting with the Argentine business community, including South African investors in Argentine and Argentinean companies already doing business with South Africa and prospective Argentine importers from South Africa.

Tuesday, 2 December 2008

  • Minister Dlamini Zuma will meet with the Africa Committee of the Argentine Council of International Relations ( CARI) where the Minister will brief the members of the Committee on perspectives for improving bilateral and regional relations between the two continents.
  • Visit to Argentine Naval Engineering School that served as the Primary Torture and Detention Centre during the Military Dictatorship.

Wednesday, 3 December 2008

  • Bilateral meeting  with her Argentinean counterpart, Dr. Jorge Taiana
  • Minister Dlamini Zuma and Dr. Jorge Taiana will co - chair the Second Meeting of the SA/ Argentine Binational Commission and Plenary Meeting.
  • Signing Ceremony of Bilateral Agreements at the Palacio San Man Martin

Minister Dlamini Zuma is expected to return to South Africa on Thursday, 4th December 2008.
