Press Statement by the Political Directorate for the Burundi Peace Process

Following the meeting held with the President of the Republic and the Leader of Palipehutu-FNL on 20 October 2008, the Facilitator, Minister Charles Nqakula went to Kampala with a view to briefing the leaders of the Regional Initiative.

The leadership of the Regional Initiative received well the report submitted by the Facilitation.

Consequently the Regional Initiative has instructed the Ministers of Foreign Affairs of the United Republic of Tanzania, of the Republic of Uganda and of the Republic of South Africa, together with the Facilitator, to visit Burundi as soon as possible to further interact with both the Government and the Palipehutu-FNL on the way forward.
