Minister Dlamini Zuma extends Condolences to Chinese Government and People

Cape TownSouth African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma today Wednesday 14 May 2008 conveyed, on behalf of the government and people of South Africa, her deepest condolences to the government and people of China following the devastating earthquake in Sichuan Province on Monday 12 May 2008.

Minister Dlamini Zuma said, “The issues of climate change have taken the centre stage in many international fora.  The occurrence of this earthquake is a painful reminder of the reality of climate change.”

“The thoughts and prayers of the government and people of South Africa indeed reach out to the government and people of China and in particular, families of those who have lost their loved ones.  We also commiserate with those who have lost all their worldly possessions and face displacement at this time,” continued Minister Dlamini Zuma.

Accordingly, we join the international community in extending our sincere condolences to the government and people of China and will support international efforts for humanitarian relief,” concluded Minister Dlamini Zuma.
