Cyril Ramaphosa’s withdrawal from the Kenya Mediation Process

Pretoria- In response to media enquiries regarding the withdrawal of Mr. Cyril Ramaphosa from the Kenya mediation process, the SA government wishes to put the following on record:

  1. Mr Ramaphosa’s involvement in the mediation process was initiated by former UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan.
  2. In this regard, the government has noted media statements attributed to Mr. Kofi Annan regarding the withdrawal of Ramaphosa from the mediation process.
  3. The SA Government will appraise itself of the facts surrounding the matter and will give a comprehensive response through Deputy Minister Aziz Pahad during his weekly media briefing scheduled for Tuesday 5 February at the Union Buildings in Pretoria.
  4. The SA Government continues to give its support to the current AU mediation process led by Kofi Annan in Kenya as part of efforts to assist the people of Kenya to address their current political challenges.
