Miriam Makeba’s mortal remains arrived in Johannesburg on Wednesday 12 November 2008
Johannesburg - The mortal remains of the late South Africa’s Goodwill Ambassador Miriam Makeba arrived at the OR Tambo International Airport in Johannesburg early on Wednesday 12 November 2008
In this regard, Minister of Arts and Culture Dr. Pallo Jordan accompanied by Foreign Affairs Acting Director-General Ambassador Jerry Matjila and Acting Chief of Protocol Nonceba Losi joined family members in receiving the mortal remains of the late Ambassador Miriam Makeba.
Ambassador Makeba’s mortal remains were repatriated to South Africa from Italy on Tuesday 11 November following assistance rendered to the family by South Africa’s Ambassador to Italy, Ambassador Lenin Shope to meet legal and medical requirements.
On behalf of President Kgalema Motlanthe, the entire government of South Africa and the Minister of Foreign Affairs Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the Makeba family, friends and colleagues.
