South Africa confirms the abduction of two South Africans in Niger Delta

Pretoria- The Nigerian authorities have officially confirmed to South Africa’s High Commissioner to Nigeria Stix Sifingo the abduction of two South Africans in the Niger Delta on Tuesday 9 September 2008.

In this regard, High Commissioner Sifingo is in contact with the office of the Nigerian National Security Advisor in the Office of the President of Nigeria, whose office is responsible for handling matters of this nature.  The High Commission is also maintaining close contact with the employer.

High Commissioner Sifingo and his consular officials will continue to do everything in their power, working with the Nigerian authorities and employer, to help find a speedy and amicable resolution to the matter. Consular officers of the Department of Foreign Affairs in Pretoria will render consular assistance to the families of the two.

Meanwhile, High Commissioner Sifingo appealed to South Africans in Nigeria to register their presence in the country by contacting the South African missions in Abuja and Lagos.
