SA Update: Situation in Thailand

Pretoria- South African Ambassador to Thailand Gibson Douglas has advised the Department of Foreign Affairs today, Tuesday 3 December, that according to information received from the Thai authorities international flights will gradually resume with effect from Friday 5 December to various international destinations.

This follows the end of demonstrations at the Thai international airport today, Tuesday 3 December. In this regard, South African passengers who were stranded in Bangkok are advised to contact either Thai Airways to finalise their travel arrangements alternatively to contact the South African Embassy in Bangkok for further assistance.

At this stage the Department of Foreign Affairs will not provide the exact number of South Africans who were stranded as the number was not static but kept on changing depending on the number of calls the South African embassy in Bangkok received.

Ambassador Gibson and his consular staff members will continue to avail their services to all South Africans who were stranded and wish to travel back to South Africa as soon as possible.
