Deputy Minister Sue van der Merwe to hold Discussions with the UK Minister of State for Commonwealth, Dr Kim Howells

Pretoria – South African Deputy Foreign Minister Sue van der Merwe will hold bilateral political, economic and trade discussions with the United Kingdom’s Minister of State for Commonwealth, Dr Kim Howells at the Union Buildings in Pretoria on Monday 7 April 2008.

Deputy Minister van der Merwe will meet Minister Howells within the context of South Africa’s priority to consolidate bilateral political, economic and trade relations with the United Kingdom with a view to strengthening North-South co-operation.

In this regard discussions between Deputy Minister van der Merwe and Minister Howells will focus on amongst others:

• The strengthening of bilateral relations;
• Issues on the African continent;
• Issues of Multilateral interest; and
• Other issues of mutual interest.

Minister of State Howells will depart from South Africa on Tuesday 8 April 2008.
