Minister Dlamini Zuma to lead South Africa Delegation to the UN Security Council Meeting, Tuesday 23 September 2008
New York- South African Foreign Minister Dr. Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will later today, Tuesday 23 September, lead the South African government delegation to the UN Security Council debate on Mediation and Settlement of Disputes.
The South African delegation is participating in the UN General Assembly and UN Security Council deliberations within the context of its conviction that the multilateral system of global governance remains the only hope in addressing the current challenges facing humanity today.
In this regard, Minister Dlamini Zuma and Minister Trevor Manuel on Monday 22 September participated in the opening plenary of the High Level meeting on Africa’s Development Needs: State of implementation of various commitments, challenges and the way forward.
Earlier on Monday 22 September, Minister Dlamini Zuma held several bilateral discussions with UN Secretary-General Ban ki-Moon, US Secretary of State Dr. Condoleezza Rice, Greek and Norwegian Foreign Ministers.
On the other hand, Minister Trevor Manuel held bilateral discussions with Kemal Dervis, Head of the UNDP and Sha Zukang, the Secretary-General of the Commonwealth.
MINISTER TREVOR MANUEL TO CHAIR MEETING ON REFORM OF BRETTONWOODS INSTITUTIONS
On Tuesday 23 September, Minister Manuel will visit Washington DC where he will chair the meeting of the Committee of Eminent Persons on the reform of the Brettonwoods Institutions at the IMF.
MINISTER DLAMINI ZUMA TO LEAD SA DELEGATION TO THE OPENING SESSION OF THE UN GENERAL ASSEMBLY
Minister Dlamini Zuma will further lead the South African delegation to the opening of the 63rd session of UN General Assembly scheduled for later today, Tuesday 23. The SA delegation will include Director-General Dr. Ayanda Ntsaluba. Deputy Directors-General George Nene and Abdul Minty, Ambassadors Dumisane Kumalo, Basso Sangqu and Chris Pepani.
Minister Dlamini Zuma is also later today scheduled to hold further bilateral discussions as follows:
- EU Commissioner Louis Michel
- Foreign Minister of Cyprus
- Foreign Minister of Saharawi Republic
- Foreign Minister of Ethiopia, and
- the Belgian Foreign Minister
