Minister Dlamini Zuma to lead South African Delegation to African Union Executive Council Meeting

Pretoria – South African Foreign Minister Dr Nkosazana Dlamini Zuma will today Sunday 4 May 2008 depart for Arusha, Tanzania where she will lead a senior South African government delegation to a Meeting of the African Union Executive Council scheduled from Tuesday – Wednesday 6 -7 May 2008.

The meeting of the Executive Council of Foreign Ministers of the African Union is expected to consider the Report on the Audit of the African Union and the comments of the Commission as well as those of other organs of the Union, with the view to making appropriate recommendations to Heads of State and Government regarding the political and economic integration of the Continent.

This Extraordinary session of the Executive Council follows the African Union Summit held in Addis Ababa in February 2008 that considered and took note of the Report of the Executive Council on the Audit of the African Union and the Report of the Ministerial Committee on the African Union Government.

Heads of State and Government of the African Union then mandated Foreign Ministers to meet within three months to consider this matter with a view to preparing for a Summit of the Committee of Twelve Heads of State and Government, scheduled to take place on 22-23 May 2008 in Tanzania.

Minister Dlamini Zuma is scheduled to return to South Africa on Thursday 8 May 2008 whereupon she will officially open the new State Protocol Lounge at OR Tambo International Airport.
