South African Government congratulates India

Pretoria- The Government of South Africa wishes to congratulate the Congress-led United Progressive Alliance (UPA) Government of India on winning the 15th Lok Sabha (Lower House) general election, conducted in five phases from 16 April to 13 May 2009. India, the world’s largest democracy has once again shown that democracy can indeed take root and flourish in diverse and populous countries.  The government wishes to extend its sincere felicitations to the people of India for expressing such a strong message of confidence in the government to deal with the challenges facing the country.

The South African Government wishes to commit itself in working closely with the UPA government, in further strengthening the good relations that exist between the two countries.

The South African Government is confident that our strategic partnership, which is rooted in common values and interests, will continue to prosper and bring benefit to our respective nations.
