No South African Nationals involved in the Indonesian Earthquake.
Pretoria – The South African Government wishes to put it on record that at this stage there are no South African nationals reported to have been involved in the Indonesian earthquake that struck in the early hours of today, 01 October 2009 and the earthquakes that hit Samoan islands and the Pacific region earlier in the week.
In this regard the South African Government has conveyed its deepest condolences to the Governments and people of Indonesia, Samoan islands and Tonga. At these trying moments the prayers and thoughts of the South African Government and people go to the families of the deceased people in the countries affected by these disasters.
With regard to the Indonesian disaster the South African Mission in Jakarta, Indonesia is in constant touch with the Indonesian authorities who indicated that the assessment of the extent of damage and identification of the fatally injured people continues.
The South African Mission will continue to monitor developments in this regard, working closely with the Indonesian authorities.
