President Jacob Zuma congratulates Malawi

Pretoria: South African President Jacob Zuma, today, Friday 22 May 2009 conveyed South Africa's congratulations to His Excellency, President Bingu Wa Mutharika, on his re-election as the President of the Republic of Malawi.

In his message of support, President Zuma said “Your Excellency, Please accept the warm congratulations of the government and the people of our country, South Africa, as well as on my own behalf on your re-election as the President of the Republic of Malawi".

“We are encouraged by the various Observer Missions, including the SADC Election Observer Mission which have commended Malawi for holding a credible, peaceful and free elections on the 19 May 2009" said President Zuma.

South Africa reaffirms its commitment to work together with Malawi for the political unity and integration of the African continent within the framework of our region, SADC as well as the African Union. South Africa also look forward to the consolidation and strengthening of bilateral, political, economic and trade relations between herself and Malawi" concluded President Zuma.
