South Africa to host SADC Summit on Zimbabwe, Monday 26 January 2009, Pretoria

Pretoria- South African President and Chairperson of SADC, President Kgalema Motlanthe will tomorrow, Monday 26 January 2009 host the Summit of SADC Heads of State and Government at the Presidential Guesthouse in Pretoria to discuss the situation in Zimbabwe

The Summit is convened primarily to discuss the implementation of the Zimbabwean Global Political Agreement, signed in 2008 between ZANU-PF and the two MDC formations and facilitated by former President Thabo Mbeki as the SADC Facilitator on the Zimbabwean dialogue.

The convening of the Monday Summit follows a decision of the meeting held in Harare, Zimbabwe on Monday 19 January attended by President Kgalema Motlanthe, President Armando Guebuza as Deputy Chairperson of the SADC Organ on Politics, Defence and Security, the SADC Facilitator former President Thabo Mbeki, with  President Robert Mugabe, Morgan Tsvangarai and Arthur Mutambara

The Summit of Heads of State and Government is expected to be attended by all member-states of SADC, Former President Thabo Mbeki as well as leaders of the two MDC formations. Zimbabwe is represented at Summit level by President Robert Mugabe.
