President Jacob Zuma arrives in Seoul, South Korea for the Fifth G20 Summit

President of the Republic of South Africa, HE Jacob G. Zuma has today, 10 November 2010 arrived in Seoul, South Korea, to attend the fifth G20 Summit scheduled to take place from 11-12 November 2010. The Seoul Summit is the second such meeting of the G20 for 2010 following the June meeting in Toronto, Canada.

South Africa participates in the G20 Summit within the context of contributing to and strengthening the multilateral system to ensure fair and effective responses to the challenges confronting the world today. South Africa is part of the G20 as is systematically important for the country, with national economic interests to promote.

The Summit will focus on the following:

• Framework for Strong, Sustainable and Balanced Growth,
• Strengthening the International Financial Regulatory System
• Global Financial Safety Nets
• Modernising the International Financial Institutions

Accordingly, the G20 continues to play a key role in responding to the global economic crisis. 

It is expected that President Zuma will attend a welcome reception hosted by President Lee Muyng-bak in honour of G20 Leaders.

President Zuma, who is accompanied Finance Minister Mr Pravin Gordhan and other senior government officials, is expected to return to South Africa on Saturday 13 November 2010.
