Deputy President Motlanthe to pay a Working Visit to the Republic of Korea

The Deputy President of the Republic of South Africa, H.E. Kgalema Motlanthe, will pay a working visit to the Republic of Korea (ROK), scheduled for 07-08 October 2010.

Deputy President Motlanthe’s visit to the Republic of Korea takes place within the context of Cooperation in the fields of Energy and Technology, and also in his capacity as Chairperson of the National Stakeholder Energy Advisory Council.

The Visit will explore possibilities for the promotion of energy and technology cooperation, concentrating on an energy mix that includes clean coal, nuclear, renewable and related technologies.

The Deputy President will pay a courtesy call on President Lee Myung-bak and will further be hosted by the Ministry of Knowledge Economy and the Korea Electric Power Corporation (KEPCO). Deputy President Motlanthe is also scheduled to meet with the Korean Ministers of Science, Technology and Education.

South Korea has expressed a willingness to share their knowledge-based development experience with South Africa and this visit will therefore seek to pave way for such important initiatives.

Deputy President will be accompanied by the Minister of Energy, Ms Dipuo Peters.
