Department of International Relations and Cooperation acknowledges attack on a South African citizen in Mozambique over the weekend
The Department of International Relations and Cooperation acknowledges the attack on a group of South African citizens in Mozambique over the weekend and the media interest that this incident has generated.
The Department wishes to confirm that South Africa’s High Commissioner to Mozambique, Dikgang Moopeloa remains seized with this matter and is in close contact with the Mozambican authorities in this regard. The High Commission is rendering consular assistance to the victims.
It is indeed regrettable that South African citizens were befallen by this unfortunate incident.
High Commissioner Moopeloa has urged South Africans travelling or planning to travel to Mozambique to exercise the necessary caution and should enquire with the lodges/venues where they have booked their accommodation about the safety in and around areas they are planning to visit. High Commissioner Moopeloa emphasized that South Africans were not specifically the target of any attack/s.
