Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Ebrahim Ebrahim to visit Maputo
Deputy Minister of the Department of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Ebrahim Ismail Ebrahim will today 01 October 2010 hold bilateral consultations with the Mozambican counterpart, HE Henrique Banze in Maputo.
South Africa and Mozambique enjoy warm and fraternal bilateral relations that are characterised by regular and increasing interaction at all levels. This relationship is informed by the historical, geographical and cultural affinities between the peoples of the two countries.
Since the advent of democracy in South Africa in 1994. The two countries have strengthened their relations especially the area of economic cooperation and investment which resulted in the implementation of multi-billion rand economic projects, inter alia, the Maputo Development Corridor. In this regard we have witnessed the phenomenal economic cooperation between South Africa and Mozambique in recent years.
South Africa is the largest investor in Mozambique. Mozambique is a key destination for South Africa's exports to Africa, on its own accounting for some R5.6-billion in 2003 (some 18% of South Africa's exports to Africa).
Mozambique has, by far, the largest South African public and private sector investment on the continent. Trade relations between the two countries have also grown tremendously.
