Memorial Service for the late SA Envoy to Angola, Mr Sisa Phuthumani Daluxolo Ncwana

A memorial service in honour of the late Mr Sisa Phuthumani Daluxolo Ncwana, South Africa’s Charge d’ Affaires to Angola will be held at 14h00 on Wednesday 25 August, at the Department of International Relations and Corporation (DIRCO)’s Multipurpose Centre, 460 Soutpansberg Road in Rietondale, Pretoria. Mr Ncwana died on 15 August in Angola after collapsing on duty at the South African Embassy in Luanda, and was rushed to hospital where he passed on.

His mortal remains were returned to South Africa by the South African government through DIRCO’s Consular Services, on Monday 23 August 2010 for the burial scheduled for Friday 27 August  after a church service at the Methodist Church in Andries Street, Pretoria, from 08h00-10h30.

Mr Ncwana has been a member of the African National Congress (ANC) since 1960. During his first year at high School in South Africa, he unfortunately could not complete his studies due to persecution for his political beliefs.

Mr Ncwana however, managed to complete his Joint Matriculation Board (JMB) through private studies and subsequently registered as a law student at the University of South Africa (UNISA) in Pretoria from 1969 until he was forced into exile in March 1973.

During his time in exile Sisa joined the military wing of the ANC (Umkhonto we Sizwe) where he first had a position as a medical officer and lastly a Camp Political Commissar. He attended a Social Sciences Certificate course in Moscow from 1975 - 1976.

In 1976, in Tanzania, he became local Assistant Treasurer to the ANC, a position he held until 1978 when he was transferred to Angola and became Camp Political Commissar.

In 1980 Mr Ncwana returned to the then Soviet Union where registered for a Diploma in Social Sciences, returning to Angola in 1983 where he became Regional Treasurer of the ANC.

He left that position to do a business management course for a small firm in Finland (1985-1989). Returning to Tanzania for a brief period, he assisted in immigration and protocol for the ANC office until September 1989 when he was transferred to be Regional Treasurer for the UK and Ireland office of the ANC from 1989 until 1996.

Returning to South Africa in 1996 he worked briefly for the Port Elizabeth City Council as a Secretary for Community Services until December 1997. In January 1998 he joined the South African Foreign Affairs Department.

He was transferred as a Political Counsellor to the South African High Commission in London from 1 November 2000 and later became the South African Representative to the Palestinian National Authority until he was transferred to Angola as Chargé d’ Affaires.
