Press Statement from SA Government following New Zealand Mine accident

The Government of the Republic of South Africa would like to express its regret at the mine accident that took place in New Zealand. We would, also, like to confirm that one of the 29 miners still trapped underground is a South African national. Our High Commissioner in Wellington, Mr Anthony Mongalo, is in consultation with the New Zealand authorities and they have just confirmed that preparations are underway to embark on a rescue mission. As Government we wish the authorities all the luck in their rescue mission and our prayers and thoughts are with the victims’ families and loved ones.
