The Department of International Relations and Cooperation invites all media to an event marking 25 days to the start of the 17th Conference of the Parties (COP17) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, which will also serve as the 7th Meeting of the Parties (CMP7) to the Kyoto Protocol. COP17/CMP7 will take place in Durban from 28 November to 09 December 2011.
The 25-day countdown event will include a tree-planting ceremony and is scheduled for 03 November 2011 in Peddie, 1420 New Housing Project, Eastern Cape Province. The event is part of a series of public awareness and outreach programmes by Government in the lead-up to COP17/CMP7.
