Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe to undertake a Working Visit to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau

Deputy President Kgalema Motlanthe today, 29 August 2011, departs to the Republic of Guinea-Bissau for an official visit scheduled to take place from 30-31 August 2011. The Deputy President’s visit comes at the invitation of the Prime Minister of Guinea Bissau, Mr Carlos Gomes Júnior.

The visit will see the two countries reaffirming their commitment to implement the bilateral programme of cooperation agreed under the Joint Bilateral Commission (JBC) that was initiated in August 2008.

Deputy President Motlanthe will also use the visit to reiterate South Africa’s support for ongoing political and military reforms of the Government of President Sanhá.

Deputy President Motlanthe and his counterpart will deliberate on various bilateral technical cooperation initiatives in the areas of health, education, human resource development and security.
